DAYTONA BEACH — The inaugural American Music Festival at the Bandshell will star Janet Jackson, Usher, the Jonas Brothers, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.

After a week of teasing newspaper ads, aborted news conferences and a postponed ticket on-sale date, those acts were announced Friday by Manuel Bornia, president of the Community Cultural Foundation. The festival is being presented by the foundation, which also presents the Daytona Beach International Festival and its showcase act, the London Symphony Orchestra.

Newspaper ads previously trumpeted that tickets would go on sale today. However, Bornia said tickets will now go on sale May 29.

Usher was honored as the Ford Freedom Award Scholar last night, an honor he received not just for his musical accomplishments, but for his entrepreneurial achievements and his work with young people. His Usher’s New Look Foundation brings 1,300 disadvantaged kids to Atlanta each year for a sports and entertainment camp. R&B crooner Usher and the late publisher John H. Johnson will both be honored at the 12th Annual Ford Freedom Awards Program taking place next week. Usher will be honored as “The Dream Maker” of the evening while Johnson, who is most well-known for being the founder and publisher of Johnson Publishing, will be honored as “The Empire Builder.” “John H. Johnson and Usher epitomize the meaning of the Ford Freedom Award,” said Ziad Ojakli, group vice president, Government and Community Relations, Ford Motor Company. “Their achievements have benefited the individual lives of many, and communities for us all. We are thrilled to have them as this years honorees and to celebrate their commitment and passion.” Next weeks awards program, which will take place on May 6, will consist of a scholar’s lecture, Ford Freedom Award essay contest, and Ford Freedom gala reception.
